Task Journals – Participants will complete a Task Journal for each of the 5 course modules and submit them to their instructor for feedback and assessment. Tasks provide students with the opportunity to put course concepts into practice through research, analysis, and evaluation. Tasks include answering discussion and short answer questions, and completing short curriculum design tasks. The Task Journals constitute 30% of the final grade.
Lesson Planning and Implementation – Participants will create three lesson plans throughout the course to be delivered either in a real virtual classroom if the participant is currently teaching, or within the learning management system to at least four volunteer ‘students’ if the participant is not currently teaching. Lesson plans will be marked on a number of criteria and will constitute 35% of the final grade.
Reflection Paper – After participants have finished teaching their three lessons, they will write a reflection paper of 4-6 pages double-spaced on their experiences. This assignment constitutes 35% of the final grade.
Quizzes – Participants will complete short comprehension quizzes for each module in the course. Quizzes will be checked for completion but will not contribute to the final grade.
